One of the most common questions I get from brides is simply: what are my options? At Breemar Flower Farm, there are three main ways to work with us for your Richmond-area wedding flowers: Finished À La Carte, Hybrid, and Fully DIY. All three are built around pickup rather than delivery and setup, which is a big part of how we keep your flowers affordable. Which one is right for you depends on your budget, your personality, and how you want to spend the days leading up to your wedding.

A quick but important note: we are not a traditional full-service florist. We don't offer delivery, setup, and teardown as a standard part of our packages. If your total wedding flower budget is $10,000 or more, we're happy to discuss a true full-service package with labor and delivery included, but that's a separate, limited offering, not one of our three core options, and not our everyday business model.

The Three Ways to Work With Breemar

1) Finished À La Carte

Everything is fully made for you: bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, aisle meadows, altar arrangements, all of your reception décor. You (or a friend, family member, or wedding planner) simply pick everything up from our location at the Hanover Market CSA and set it out. We keep designs simple enough to install easily, sometimes even a small arch piece secured with zip ties, so no professional installation crew is needed.

This is the most complete option we offer while still keeping you in control of pickup and setup, which is what keeps it more affordable than a traditional full-service florist. Setting out bud vases, aisle markers, and pinning on boutonnieres really isn't difficult, it can be a bit labor-intensive, but if your venue gives you enough setup time, it's very manageable and saves real money.

2) Fully DIY

We curate a complete flower palette for you with everything you need to create a polished, professional-looking design yourself. You pick up buckets of flowers that are already hydrated, stripped, and ready to arrange, no guesswork about what to buy or how to prep it. This is a wonderful option for budget-conscious brides, or for anyone who wants a hands-on, deeply personal connection to their wedding flowers. 3) Hybrid (Our Most Popular Option)

This is a thoughtful blend of both: we handle the technical, highly photographed pieces, bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and sometimes an arch piece, while you DIY the simpler reception elements like bud vases or small jar arrangements using a Bucket of Blooms. It's genuinely the best of both worlds for a lot of brides.

A Note on Full-Service Weddings

If your wedding flower budget is $10,000 or more, we're happy to talk about a true full-service package, including delivery, setup, and teardown. This isn't something we offer as standard, and it's not one of our three main options above, it's a limited, by-request offering for larger budgets and the right fit. If that's you, just mention it when you reach out and we can discuss whether it makes sense for your day.

What the Process Actually Looks Like

Here's the real timeline, from first inquiry to wedding day:

1. Start with our Investment Calculator. This gets emailed to both you and me, giving us a starting point for your needs and budget.

2. Consultation and inquiry form. We follow up to get crystal clear on your vision, style, and priorities.

3. Pinterest board and color palette. We collect your inspiration images to understand your colors and overall style. Note: we guarantee your color palette, not specific flowers, since we prioritize American-grown blooms and availability naturally shifts season to season.

4. Recipe development. I put together a plan and flower "recipe" for your day based on everything we've discussed.

5. Deposit and date hold. Once you're ready to move forward, a deposit secures your date. This varies depending on how large your wedding is. I also have flexible payment plan options.

6. 45 days out. We confirm all your final needs, lock in the details, collect final payment, and place your flower order.

7. One week out. We confirm your pickup time.

8. The day before your wedding. Everything is ready and available for pickup. We intentionally don't hand off flowers the day of your wedding, it's simply less stressful for you and your family.

If you're fully DIYing your flowers, plan to pick them up two days ahead rather than one, for a Saturday wedding, that means Thursday pickup, giving you time to arrange without a same-day scramble.

Real Cost Comparison: Same Wedding, Three Ways

To make this concrete, here's a real cost breakdown for the same 100-guest wedding (bridal party of four bridesmaids, four groomsmen, two moms, two dads, two arch pieces, ten reception centerpieces, plus extras for cake, photography, and a bar piece, with aisle meadows repurposed for the sweetheart table) priced three different ways:

• Finished À La Carte: $3,445–$4,995

• Hybrid (finished personals, boutonnieres, corsages, two arch pieces, plus about five DIY buckets): $2,740–$3,545

• Fully DIY (roughly eight standard DIY buckets plus one to two premium buckets for special blooms like peonies, garden roses, or extra-large ranunculus): under $2,000

Which Option Is Right for You?

Honestly, I steer most brides toward hybrid, it lets you skip the stress of the technical, highly photographed pieces while still saving real money on the simpler reception elements like bud vases, which are genuinely easy for a bride or her family to put together.

Fully DIY tends to be the best fit if:

• Your budget is tight but you still want that lush, wildflower look you simply can't order online or from a big box store

• You have some floral design experience, or a natural crafting streak

• Getting hands-on with your flowers is something you genuinely want to be part of your wedding day experience

• You're also planning a rehearsal dinner and want an easy, affordable way to add flowers there too

Finished à la carte tends to be the best fit if:

• You love the idea of fresh, farm-grown, sustainable flowers but have zero interest in the DIY process

• You'd rather spend the days before your wedding relaxing, wine tasting, getting your nails done, not arranging flowers

• You want everything simply picked up and set out with no design decisions left to make

How to Actually Decide

A few honest questions to ask yourself:

• How much hands-on work do I actually want to do in the days leading up to my wedding?

• Would I panic if my own arrangements didn't turn out the way I pictured them?

• How important are the flowers to the overall look and feel of my day, is this an area I want to invest more in, or one I'm comfortable simplifying?

• Do I have people in my life (bridesmaids, family, a wedding planner) who are willing and able to help set things up?

• Is my venue giving me enough setup time to comfortably handle it myself?

• Am I willing to invest in a practice round of flowers beforehand, which typically runs a few hundred dollars, to build confidence before the big day?

There's no wrong answer here. Budget matters, but so does your personality and how you want to spend your final days before the wedding. If squeezing your budget a little further means your bridal bouquet is done exactly right when you walk down the aisle, that peace of mind is often worth it. For others, the hands-on experience of crafting alongside the people they love is the whole point.
